You get a TV show, and YOU get a TV show! EVERYBODY GETS A TV SHOW!!!
Sorry, we were just imagining what goes on in Oprah‘s brain, because she has a brand new documentary series in the works, and it’s about one of the hottest figures in sports right now.
Michael Sam!
The defensive end made a splash this weekend when he was the first openly gay player to EVER be selected in the NFL Draft, and now the Big O plans on telling his entire story as she just bought the rights to do a series on OWN!
Oprah released a statement on the move, saying:
“We are honored that Michael is trusting us with his private journey in this moment that has not only made history but will shape it forever. I am proud of the focus on authentic storytelling in our new documentary series format. The next real-life story we follow in The Untitled Michael Sam Project promises to spark valuable, important discussion on life in America today. Acceptance and illumination start here.”
Michael also released a statement on the docuseries, and he said he’s VERY excited to share his story with the world:
“If seeing my story helps somebody else accept who they are and to go for their dreams too, that’s great. I am thankful to Oprah for her support and excited to work together.”
While the series doesn’t have a name or a release date yet, sources say it will most likely be broken up into 6 to 8 segments.
We think this is an AWESOME idea, because if anyone is going to tell Michael Sam’s story and do it right, it’s going to be Oprah!
