Just last month, Oscar Pistorius was sentenced to 5 years in prison for shooting and killing his girlfriend Reeva Steenkamp. However, the former sprinter was hoping to appeal for parole after serving 10 months behind bars.
Unfortunately for Oscar, sources are saying that wont be possible because officers would NOT be able to attach monitoring ankle bracelets to his removable prosthetic legs.
Prison officials have reportedly told the double amputee that he would not qualify for the monitoring system due to his disability, and under South African law electronic bracelets may not be placed on the wrist because they are too easy to remove.
A source has already confirmed this, saying:
“The device has to be attached physically to the offender’s ankle. We cannot use it on false limbs which could be left somewhere static while the offender goes missing.”
While the situation might seem hopeless, Oscar has also reportedly been told that he might still be able to apply for parole WITHOUT the tagging system, and sources say he’s appeared to be more calm and relieved in his last few days behind bars.

However, that wasn’t always the case as he reportedly wept himself to sleep and was heckled by other prisoners the first few nights behind bars. Oscar is currently being held in an isolated cell due to concerns for his safety in a prison notorious for gang violence.
It’s unclear how the former Olympian plans on applying for parole once he serves 10 months behind bars, but we’re willing to guess this isn’t the last we’ll be hearing abut this case.
