So Sad! Acid Attack Victim Commits Suicide

This is SO devastating.
33-year-old Fakhra Younus committed suicide on March 17, after undergoing over three dozen surgeries to repair severe damages from being burned in acid.
Back in May 2000, Younus was attacked in her sleep by her abusive ex-husband, who poured acid all over her face and body.
Absolutely horrifying!!!
The former Pakistani dancing girl had been living and getting treatment in Rome when she chose to end her life by jumping from the sixth floor of her residence’s building.
Nayyar Shabana Kiyani, an activist at The Aurat Foundation said:

“The saddest part is that she realized that the system in Pakistan was never going to provide her with relief or remedy. She was totally disappointed that there was no justice available to her.”

Sadly, Fakhra wasn├óΓé¼Γäót the only victim of violence in her home country — It├óΓé¼Γäós been reported that over 8,500 acts of violence against women occurred in Pakistan in just 2011…including acid attacks and forced marriages.
We hope that if anything can come out of such a tragic event, it’s that Fakhra’s story will bring awareness to such a MAJOR issue and that more will be done to prevent such acts of violence.
Rest in peace, Fakhra.
