Chatting With... Jill Scott!

Jilly from Philly is back!!!

Perez recently had the pleasure of recently catching up with the mega talented Jill Scott, whom we last interviewed in 2007.

We talked about her upcoming album (out June 21st), her new attitude on love, being a new mom, how she’s slimmed down considerably recently – and so much more!

Read some highlights from our interview… after the jump.

Watch the chat in full (above)!

Perez Hilton: I’m somewhat familiar with why there’s been a delay [with the music] but maybe everybody watching is not as much. What was the hold up?

Jill Scott: Well, one, I have to live. I’ve got to do simple things, it’s really important to me. Two, I had a major battle with my ex record label. We were in court for maybe about a year and a half. And finally, things were agreed upon and parted ways. Found a distribution company, started a record label, blah, blah, blah, here I am.

Perez Hilton: So ultimately though I think maybe you would agree, everything happens for a reason.

Jill Scott: Absolutely.

Perez Hilton: And now you have your own record label.

Jill Scott: Yes.

Perez Hilton: And do you plan to release music other than your own eventually?

Jill Scott: Eventually. I want to see how this goes. I have to learn what I’m doing first before I bring somebody else into it. I want to make sure I’m doing the right thing.

Perez Hilton: And in the past you├óΓé¼Γäóve released some very big albums with a lot of songs on them. Like how many songs will be on this one [“The Light Of The Sun”, out in June], do you know yet?

Jill Scott: A lot. I mean, I have a lot to say, so it should be somewhere between 15 and maybe 18, we’ll see.

Perez Hilton: A lot. And will there be any poems in there, some skits, a little bit of everything?

Jill Scott: Absolutely. Some poems, some minute and 49 second songs that have a lot — actually the minute and 49 second song has more lyrics than any of the other songs. Yeah.

Perez Hilton: It’s a love album?

Jill Scott: I wouldn’t call it that. It’s a, I was in love, got my feelings hurt real bad, got confused, stop believing in love. Right I know. Stop believing in love, found some amazing sex, got caught up in that, got something called dickmatized, found my way back to appreciating the rest and not the, just the lower half of me.

Perez Hilton: Dickmatized, yeah. I love how direct that is.

Jill Scott: There’s no way around it, you can’t get around dickmatized.

Perez Hilton: And what state are you in right now when it comes to love or men?

Jill Scott: I am in a non sexual dating experience, which happens to be pretty incredible.

Perez Hilton: Non sexual?

Jill Scott: Non sexual.

Perez Hilton: How long has this been going on for?

Jill Scott: So far, three months.

Perez Hilton: Three months without sex?

Jill Scott: Yes.

Perez Hilton: And that was your decision?

Jill Scott: It’s mutual. It was, it’s been longer than three months. I would say for me, I’ve decided nothing, no cookie until at least the fifth date. And that├óΓé¼Γäós not a guarantee. If we make it to the fifth date then we’re going to — it’s going to be smashed potatoes and gravy. It’s not, that├óΓé¼Γäós not it.

Perez Hilton: Wow, have you ever done that before, like gone that long and waiting that long?

Jill Scott: Not on purpose. Not on purpose. I just don├óΓé¼Γäót want to make the same mistakes that I’ve made in the past. So I don├óΓé¼Γäót want my relationship to be ruled by my lower half. You have to take time and date and —

Perez Hilton: You went to the white house recently?

Jill Scott: Yes.

Perez Hilton: Where you took part in this evening of poetry which ended up being a little controversial. An evening of poetry because Common was invited to the White House and Sarah Palin had an opinion about it all. What were you thoughts on that whole shebang?

Jill Scott: [See video for answer.]
