Philip Seymour Hoffman‘s shocking death was first and foremost a tragedy for his loved ones. But the world of film has also suffered the great loss of no less than an acting genius.
As many fans around the world know, Philip was working on the final installment of The Hunger Games. His role of Plutarch Heavensbee was pivotal in Catching Fire, and even more important in the upcoming Mockingjay.
So will this tragedy affect the movie? Will the role need to be recast? According to sources, Philip’s work was nearly finished; he may have had as little as a week left of filming. But is it enough to complete the film?
Lionsgate rightfully chose to focus on condolences in their first statement, saying:

“Philip Seymour Hoffman was a singular talent and one of the most gifted actors of our generation. We├óΓé¼Γäóre very fortunate that he graced our Hunger Games family. Losing him in his prime is a tragedy, and we send our deepest condolences to Philip├óΓé¼Γäós family.”

But according to an inside source, the star’s death will not affect the movies’ release dates of November 21, 2014 and November 20, 2015.
As for how the studio will achieve this, fans will have to wait until the filmmakers have figured it out themselves.
