Pima County Sheriff WARNS About New Scam Connected To Nancy Guthrie Investigation - What You Need To Know!

As the investigation to find out what happened to Nancy Guthrie continues five months in, the Pima County Sheriff’s Department is warning concerned citizens about a scary new scam connected to the case!

On Tuesday, Nancy’s local police department issued a statement “regarding online and email misinformation in connection to the Nancy Guthrie investigation.” But this isn’t just about misinformation circulating — it’s a potentially very risky scam trying to take advantage of those trying to help the Guthrie family! OH NO!

The police detailed:

“The Pima County Sheriff’s Department is aware of posts circulating about the Guthrie Investigation that include a QR code requesting money. PCSD will never ask for money related to this case, or any investigation.”

YIKES…

They insisted this isn’t coming from them — and never would:

“PCSD will never ask for money related to this case, or any investigation. Please do not send money to people you do not know or scan QR codes requesting payments. If you see one of these posts, ignore it and report it. Stay alert and help spread the world.”

QR scams can be super dangerous. What may look like a harmless QR code can have hidden malicious links inside — allowing criminals to steal personal information, login credentials, and even money! So always be very careful when scanning a code!

Sheriff Chris Nanos told People that they decided to issue the warning statement after learning of a truck that was spotted driving around Tucson, Arizona, with an AI-enhanced image of a woman wearing a face mask and asking people to assist in the investigation. Jeez. Awful. So uncool to see people trying to take advantage of a family and community’s heartbreak.
