Pope Francis Just Married A Couple 36,000 Feet In The Air!

Pope Francis has just joined a different kind of mile-high club!
According to the Associated Press, on a Thursday LATAM Airlines flight from Santiago to Iquique, the religious leader actually married two flight attendants — bride Paula Podest and groom Carlos Ciuffardi — 36,000 feet in the air!
It all started when the flight crew gathered at the front of the plane to take a photo with His Holiness. The couple then told the Bishop of Rome they were married in a 2010 civil service, but were unable to have a church ceremony because of the Chile earthquake that year.

The groom dished:

“We told him that we are husband and wife, that we have two daughters and that we would have loved to receive his blessing… All of a sudden he asked us if we were married in the church, too… He liked us and he asked, ‘Do you want me to marry you?”‘

After a Vatican official drafted up an official though handwritten marriage certificate, Francis performed the first-ever airborne papal wedding, with the head of the airline serving as the witness.
According to the couple — who have two children, ages six and three — the Pope offered them some valuable advice. The bride recounts:

“The wedding rings shouldn’t be too tight, because they’ll torture you, but if they’re too loose, they’ll fall off. So we have to be careful.”
