If this isn’t the perfect argument as to why a woman’s sexual reproductive health choice should be her own, we don’t know what is.
Because honestly, this is unfathomably horrible.
A pregnant patient was diagnosed with leukemia, and was not able to get the chemotherapy treatment because of a delay.
That delay was caused by anti-abortion laws.
The mother had to wait for chemotherapy because of an abortion ban in the Dominican Republic, because such treatment could terminate the pregnancy — a violation of the Dominican Constitution, which bans abortion.
20 days later when it was decided that she would be allowed to start treatment, it was too late.
She died from complications of the disease, and here’s what her mom said:
“They have killed me, I’m dead, dead. I’m nothing. She was the reason for my existence. I no longer live. Rosa has died. Let the world know that Rosa is dead.”
She was 13 weeks pregnant and suffered a miscarriage early Friday, followed by cardiac arrest, and doctors were unable to revive her.
So sad.
We wish more people would understand that a woman has a right to make her own reproductive health decisions — it should be up to the woman, not politics.
