President Barack Obama Opens Up About His History Of Drug Use In Candid MTV Special: 'I Pretty Much Tried Whatever Was Out There'

Say no to drugs… but yes to MTV specials!
With Donald Trump and Hillary Clinton taking up nearly all of the spotlight in today’s political sphere, President Barack Obama has to find unique ways to spend his last few days in office.
Luckily, one of the final items on his docket just so happens to be opioid addiction prevention, so he teamed up with Macklemore for the music network’s upcoming documentary Prescription For Change: Ending America’s Opioid Crisis!

In a teaser for Tuesday’s hour-long special, POTUS opens up about his own history with drugs and alcohol while admitting his biggest vice was actually cigarettes, saying:

“For me, when I was a teenager, I used drugs; I drank. I pretty much tried whatever was out there, but I was in Hawaii, and it was a pretty relaxed place. I was lucky that I did not get addicted — except to cigarettes, which took me a long time to kick — but, it does seem as if the speed with which you get hooked on opiate-based medicines is fierce.”

So candid!
But he wasn’t just talking about his own personal struggles with substance abuse… the President’s even had friends recover from their addictions, saying:

“I think that anybody whose grown up in America has known people whose struggled with it; may have had some struggles of their own. I had a lot of close friends who ended up going through the recovery process. But the reason that we’ve been really focusing on this opioids issue is that this is an area where the incidents of people dying from overdoses are actually spiking. 2014, we saw more people die of drug overdoses than die of car accidents.”

Hopefully this doc can help bring that number back down!
Ch-ch-check out a sneak peek of Prescription For Change before it airs Tuesday, October 11 at 9 p.m. EST on MTV (below)!!!
