Well this just burst a magical Thanksgiving fantasy we had.
One of the best parts of Thanksgiving is when the President pardons two turkeys from having to be eaten.
Sure, when President Obama waves his magic hand, the turkeys are no longer on death row. Heck, they even move to George Washington’s historic home of Mount Vernon.
But after that? They don’t make it very long.
The problem is while a wild turkey weighs about 12-pounds, a turkey that’s been raised for eating weighs about 40!!
When an ABC reporter visited the farm where pardoned birds are sent, he found only an empty cage.
The farmer said:
“We usually just find ├óΓé¼╦£em and they├óΓé¼Γäóre dead. Their flesh has grown so fast, and their heart and their bones and their other organs can├óΓé¼Γäót catch up.”
So because they’re grown to be food, they basically can’t be anything other than food.
They have an expiration date while they’re still alive!! That’s so sad!
We still think pardoning the turkeys is a great idea because it at least gives them a few months to a year of a good life and gives other turkeys hope that maybe it could be them getting pardoned next year!
