Prince Harry wants his kids to be able to choose their own paths — reportedly even if that path is one that takes them back to the royal family. But is that even possible amid his ongoing rift with big bro Prince William??
According to a report in the Guardian, the Duke of Sussex and his wife Meghan Markle allegedly want their son Archie, 6, and daughter Lilibet, 4, to retain their “HRH” (His or Her Royal Highness) titles specifically so they can have the option to become working royals one day when they get older… if they so choose, of course.

However, according to a second new report out in the Sunday Times, sources say there is “bemusement in royal circles” involving Prince William and his closest Buckingham Palace advisors over that apparent wish.
In other words, insiders say the idea that Archie and Lilibet could become working royals is VERY unlikely under William’s reign!
Yikes!
This is all complicated by another recent note from earlier this month, which claims Archie and Lilibet’s UK passport applications were delayed after being submitted with their HRH titles included as part of their names.
Per a legal source, British government official were supposedly “dragging their feet” in a passport approval delay that has lasted nearly six months! (FYI, standard passport processing time in the UK is typically less than a month, so this is a significant slowdown.)
Of that passport delay, once source noted this at the time about King Charles‘ apparent hesitation to indulge in the HRH move:
“The King hadn’t wanted Archie and Lili to carry the titles, most of all the HRH, and the British passports, once created, would be the first and perhaps the only legal proof of their names.”
And yet other insiders aren’t so sure the King is involved at all. For what it’s worth, the Daily Telegraph reports a Buckingham Palace source still strongly denies Charles or his officials had anything to do with the passport delay. Hmmm.

Regardless, it appears that mum’s the word for Harry. When the Guardian queried Harry’s crew this week about the working royals rumors regarding his children, Team Sussex replied curtly:
“We do not comment on private issues pertaining to the Duke and Duchess of Sussex’s children.”
So, who knows.
