Why Priyanka Chopra Thought She Got Friend-Zoned After Nick Jonas Met Her Mom!

Priyanka Chopra is telling the story of the time her mom was first introduced to Nick Jonas! And boy, it’s embarrassing for everyone involved!

On Thursday’s episode of Not Gonna Lie, the beauty queen sat down with Kylie Kelce and discussed all things Nick. The topic of her first meeting with the Jonas Brothers singer came up, and she surprised Kylie with the revelation they DM’d on Twitter for nearly a year before they actually came face-to-face.

And that big meeting got delayed even further, thanks to Priyanka! The 42-year-old actress admitted:

“So the first time, I was late by 45 minutes.”

OMG! After a year??

Way to set the tone LOLz! But their not-so-fairytale meeting didn’t stop there. She said after their first hangout is when Nick actually met her mom, Madhu Chopra:

“At the end of the night we went back to my place just to hang out because we were at the Carlisle and it was closing. I told him ‘my mom is home, so she might be up’. But I forgot to tell my mom I was bringing a boy back.”

Oh no…

When Priyanka and her future hubby got back to the apartment she was sharing with her momma at the time, she said the 71-year-old was “laid out on the couch watching SVU“:

“When I walked in with Nick she was SO mad at me. She ran to her bedroom and was like, ‘you should’ve told me somebody was coming over!’ It was one in the morning.”

Ha! Momma was right! You gotta give a girl time to put her face on! One o’clock in the morning…

The Quantico star said Madhu ran to the bathroom and was “putting her lipstick on” when she shouted:

“I’m not coming back out!”

So embarrassing! It was an awkward moment for the couple, too. When Kylie asked if it was true Madhu met her future son-in-law on their “first date”, Priyanka said:

“I don’t even think we thought it was a date. We were going to the Met Gala together because we were both going with Ralph Lauren. Since we were two singles, they asked if we wanted to walk the carpet together … Because we were gonna go together, we were like ‘let’s just meet’. I don’t think it was a date. We met to just kind of see what it was.”

After all the chaos with her mom, though, she totally thought she was friend-zoned:

“He gave me a hug at the end of the night and I thought I’d really royally screwed it up. He, like, patted me on the back twice … I got patted … I thought because I was 45 minutes late, he was like ‘she’s a diva, whatever’. Then I got a back pat at the end of the night.”

Ha! She asked her besties if she should even be texting him after that awkward moment.

It ended up being meant to be, though, of course! A year later Priyanka said they went out on a real date and “never stopped dating”. And now they have a beautiful marriage and their own little bundle of joy, Malti Marie.
