Queen Elizabeth Cuts Back

Not even Queen Elizabeth II can escape the recession!

Keeping “in touch” with her people, the Queen has scaled back on expenses and extravagances, and she has encouraged the royal family to do likewise, especially grandsons Prince William and Prince Harry.

Part of her penny-saving methods include turning off the lights in vacant rooms of Buckingham Palace and re-using leftovers from banquets. During October’s state visit to Slovakia and Slovenia, the queen had dressmakers use fabric she received 20 years ago, instead of buying new material. She has also re-used dresses for public appearances – a practice formerly unheard of.

As a whole, yearly royal expenditure has dropped from 87.3 million pounds in 1991-1992 to 40 million pounds in 2007-2008.

Traditionally mum on political opinions, the queen expressed her shock at the world’s current economic situations on a visit to the London School of Economics, asking, “Why did nobody notice it?”

People noticed it, but no one wanted to call a spade a spade!
