Queen Elizabeth II Makes Subtle Nod To Meghan Markle Ahead Of Official Royal Exit

Queen Elizabeth II just gave a subtle nod to the changes taking place in her family.

In her speech, the 93-year-old touted the “diversity” that makes up the Commonwealth, which will be celebrated on Monday at Westminster Abbey:

“On Commonwealth occasions, it is always inspiring to be reminded of the diversity of the people and countries that make up our worldwide family. We are made aware of the many associations and influences that combine through Commonwealth connection, helping us to imagine and deliver a common future.”

Though this speech is about the greater Commonwealth and not just the royal family, there are several hints at the changes being made by Meghan Markle and Prince Harry:

“Such a blend of traditions serves to make us stronger, individually and collectively, by providing the ingredients needed for social, political and economic resilience.”

The royal matriarch says:

“Throughout my life, I have had the opportunity to see and hear how membership of the Commonwealth family means so much to those living in all parts of the world, often in places that are quite remote. Advances in technology and modern media have now enabled many more people to witness and enjoy — with remarkable immediacy — this experience of Commonwealth connection, in areas such as education, medicine and conservation.”

The Queen’s full speech will be printed in the order of service handed out to the congregation at the Commonwealth Day service on Monday, though we wouldn’t be surprised if the day is overshadowed by Meg and Harry considering it is their last official event as members of the monarchy before they begin their new life on March 31. She added:

“We are also aware, perhaps as never before, that wherever we live, our choices and actions affect the well-being of people and communities living far away, and in very different circumstances.”

Her Majesty’s latest speech comes after Harry made a nod of his own to his grandmother and “always serving” his country. While at the Endeavour Fund Awards on Thursday, he shared with the crowd:

“Meghan and I are so happy to be back here with you, to celebrate each and every one of you for your achievements, your service and your resilience. For some, the military community represents a brotherhood or sisterhood that no other organization can provide, and for others, it’s a way of life which you never want to leave. For a lot of us, it’s both. Being able to serve Queen and Country is something we all are rightly proud of, and it never leaves us. Once served, always serving!”
