Rashida Jones Wants You To Give Rescue Gifts For The Holidays

Rashida Jones has joined the International Rescue Committee (IRC) to encourage holiday shoppers to buy “Rescue Gifts” instead of normal presents.
She wrote on the IRC’s blog:

“This holiday season I’m buying Rescue Gifts for my friends because I can├óΓé¼Γäót think of a better gift than one that saves lives.”

Rescue Gifts are things that help others this holiday season, such as emergency food, training for a healthcare worker, a year of school for a child and much more.
She is giving two Rescue Gifts herself. She wrote:

“When I visited an IRC refugee camp in Tham Hin on the border of Burma and Thailand, it was clear that water transforms lives. The IRC had installed an irrigation system, which I think was one of the main reasons the people there were thriving. They had access to clean water to drink, to use for cooking and to keep themselves clean and healthy. That├óΓé¼Γäós why I am giving the gift of Clean Water.”

Another visit to the IRC near her home turf inspired another gift:

“Recently I visited the IRC├óΓé¼Γäós New Roots community farm in San Diego where resettled refugees can grow their own food. Farmers there can then sell their produce at local farmers├óΓé¼Γäó markets, which enables them to put money back into their gardens and support their families. This is also a great way to contribute to their new communities ├óΓé¼ΓÇ¥ so I am giving a Community Garden.”

Such a great idea, to be able to so specifically help those in need during this holiday season.
She hopes others will join her this holiday season, she wrote:
