Reese Witherspoon was NOT happy about how Renee Zellweger was treated during her latest red carpet appearance.
And she’s not staying quiet about it!

So the Wild star decided to address the criticism lobbed at Renee during a roundtable discussion for The Hollywood Reporter.
On the defense, she said:
“It’s horrible. It’s cruel and rude and disrespectful, and I can go on and on and on. It bothers me immensely.”

The actress further elaborated on how it’s unfair that women are most often targeted and ridiculed for their looks:
“I know this is so Pollyanna of me, but why ├óΓé¼ΓÇ£ and it’s particularly women ├óΓé¼ΓÇ£ why do they have to tear women down? And why do we have to tear other women down to build another woman up? It drives me crazy. Like, this one looks great without her makeup but that one doesn’t look good without her makeup, and it’s all just a judgment and assault that I don’t ├óΓé¼ΓÇ£ look, men are prey to it as well. I just don’t think it’s with the same sort of ferocity.”
It seems like sometimes people enjoy tearing others down to feel better about themselves, which is no excuse, but sadly a fact in our world.
It may not change anytime soon, but with more Hollywood heavyweights like Reese talking about it, maybe there will slowly but surely be some shift in the status quo.
