The end of an era is here.
This morning, Regis Philbin made the official announcement on Live! with Regis and Kelly that this season would be his last on the program. He’s finally decided to retire.
Facing his dedicated audience of almost three decades, he expressed his sincerest thanks to those who have stuck with him through the years and explained the joy that has been his time on the show. He told his audience:
“This will be my last year on this show. It’s been a long time, it’s been 28 years since I’ve been here. And it was the biggest thrill of my life. There is a time that everything must come to an end for certain people on camera, especially certain old people.”
Ha! Still a charmer after all this time. Regis explained that his exit will be coming towards the end of the summer or in the fall. When it was time for his co-host, Kelly Ripa to say a few words, she said:
“I think I can only speak for America and all of us here when I say it has been a pleasure and a privilege and a dream come true. And I wish I could do something to change your mind.”
Everyone’s going to sorely miss you Reg, but it’s time you take a rest. You surely earned it!
