Renée Zellweger Explains Why She Quit Hollywood For 6 Years!

Renée Zellweger is opening up about why she had to say goodbye to Hollywood for some time!

Back in 2010, the beloved actress took a break from her career after working on the movie My Own Love Song. And it was a pretty long pause, too! Renée did not make her grand return to the big screen until SIX YEARS LATER when she reprised her role as Bridget Jones for the threequel Bridget Jones’s Baby! Wow! Flash forward to 2025, and she’s finally explaining to her former co-star Hugh Grant for British Vogue about why she “needed to” take time off!

What happened? After working year after year after year since 1993, Renée couldn’t stand her own acting anymore! She said:

“I was sick of the sound of my own voice. When I was working, I was like, ‘Oh, my gosh, listen to you. Are you sad again, Renée? Oh, is this your mad voice?’ It was a regurgitation of the same emotional experiences.”

That’ll ruin the creative juices! So, the Chicago star decided to take a step back from acting. However, she wasn’t just doing “nothing” during her break! She started a lot of hobbies and got some family time! Renée recalled:

“I wrote music and studied international law. I built a house, rescued a pair of older doggies, created a partnership that led to a production company, advocated for and fundraised with a sick friend, and spent a lot of time with family and godchildren and driving across the country with the dogs. I got healthy.”

Sounds like this hiatus was much needed! But selfishly, we’re happy she didn’t make this a permanent break from Hollywood like some of her fellow actors! She’s too good at her craft to leave forever!
