Well, for those of you who thought Rick Moranis had stopped making movies for good, think again!
The actor took an 18-year hiatus after his wife, Ann, passed away from breast cancer in 1997. He left the industry to focus his time and energy on raising his two kids.

But he insists that he didn’t retire way back then — like his Wikipedia page had said — because now that his children have become adults, he’s ready to get back in the game, saying:
“I took a break, which turned into a longer break. But I’m interested in anything that I would find interesting. I still get the occasional query about a film or television role and as soon as one comes along that piques my interest, I’ll probably do it. [But Ghostbusters] didn’t appeal to me.”
The 62-year-old, who had starred in the first two Ghostbusters flicks back in the ’80s, admitted that he turned down a cameo spot in Paul Feig‘s female-led reboot. Now, he’s explaining why:
“I wish them well I hope it’s terrific. But it just makes no sense to me. Why would I do just one day of shooting on something I did 30 years ago?”
Even though he thoroughly enjoyed acting, and hopes to get back into it eventually, the Canadian entertainer says he wouldn’t trade his time off for anything:
“I was working with really interesting people, wonderful people. I went from that to being at home with a couple of little kids, which is a very different lifestyle. But it was important to me. I have absolutely no regrets whatsoever. My life is wonderful.”
And he confesses that he didn’t take a break from the industry entirely, clarifying:
“It wasn’t a formal decision. It began in an already busy year where I declined a film that was being shot out of town as the school year was beginning. But I was fortunate to be able to continue to make a living writing and doing voice work in Manhattan.”
While he won’t be playing a walk-on role alongside Sigourney Weaver, Bill Murray, or Dan Aykroyd, who have all signed on for the remake — even though Dan deleted his tweet about it — the Honey, I Shrunk the Kids lead doesn’t regret being choosy over the scenes he shoots:
“It’s hard to come up with original material. Occasionally, they get it right or else they wouldn’t attempt to do these things. I’m surprised that Disney hasn’t done Honey, I Shrunk the Grandkids. But I’m happy with the things I said yes to, and I’m very happy with the many things I’ve said no to. Yes, I am picky, and I’ll continue to be picky. Picky has worked for me.”
Well, we’ll miss seeing Louis Tully in the upcoming film, but we’re glad to see that Rick is gearing up to get back into acting again!
