A vote for Rick Santorum is a vote for homophobia, ignorance and disrespect for our military.
Last night, Santorum was posed a question from a gay solider serving in Iraq about his stance on the Dont’ Ask, Don’t Tell repeal. True to form, Santorum disgustingly stood there and insulted this solider’s bravery and loyalty to his country by insisting that the repeal was a “social extermination” the military is trying out and then asserted he would reinstitute the horrendous policy if he were elected as president. He added:
“That policy would be re-instituted as far as people in, I would not throw them out because that would be unfair to them because of the policy of this administration. But we would move forward in conformity with what was happening in the past. Which was- sex is not an issue. It should not be an issue. Leave it alone. Keep it to yourself whether you are heterosexual or homosexual.”
Wow. Silencing the bravest of our nation because it makes YOU uncomfortable. Yeah, that makes a lot of sense.
What really was so disheartening about his comments is that they seem to be supported by many in the room he was speaking in. After Stephen Hill gave his question via YouTube, several rude and disrespectful audience members booed him loudly, just for being himself. And Rick did nothing. He didn’t tell them to stop. He didn’t reprimand their behavior. What kind of man does that make Rick? As far as we can see, it makes him … a bully.
And we wonder why kids feel like there is no point in living in this world. People like those blind cowards, who see only what they want to see, even from a person who fights from their freedom every day, are the reason this world is such a mess. Would it be so hard to offer some kindness and understanding to your fellow Americans? Would it be so terrible to just let people, who are doing harm to no one, live their lives with persecution.
Would it, really?
