Rihanna Mourns Death Of Amputee Model Who Slayed Savage X Fenty Show

Rihanna pays tribute to dead model

Another inspiring hero gone way too soon.

Rihanna was one of the many stars who took to Instagram this week to mourn the loss of amputee model Mama Cax (real name Cacsmy Brutus), who reportedly spent the last week in the hospital and was said to have fought up until the very last moments of her life.

The 30-year-old model’s family made the devastating announcement on her IG page Monday, December 16, writing:

“Mama Cax spent the past week in the hospital, and unfortunately, on Monday, December 16, 2019, she left this world… To say that Cax was a fighter would be an understatement. As a cancer survivor, she had grown accustomed to taking on life’s several challenges head on and successfully. It is with the same grit (fervor) that she fought her last days on earth.”

The adaptive/inclusive fashion activist’s family asked the public to respect their privacy at this time, and explained more information about the funeral arrangements would be revealed at a later date.

The statement continued:

“We are aware that this loss will be felt globally and will not be easy for anyone.”

That included Rihanna, who revealed she was devastated by the news in a social media post paying tribute to Cax. Captioning a photo of the late star working the Savage x Fenty runway earlier this year, the songstress wrote:

“A queen. A force. A powerhouse beauty that brought her strength to the @savagexfenty stage this year inspiring so many across the globe. Rest In Power sis ✊?? @mamacax”

Many others were caught off guard by Cax’s sudden death. Model Iskra Lawrence wrote in a tribute post:

“There’s no words to express how grateful I am for your existence and that the world has been graced with your positivity, wisdom and love. It’s been an honour my love to get to know you and I will always cherish the memories and until we meet again one day – thank you, thank you for being you love you ❤️”

It’s no surprise the world of fashion was rocked by the news. For those who don’t know, Cax was a rising star in the modeling industry, where she fought for fashion inclusivity and made changes both on and off the runway.

Mama Cax was diagnosed with bone cancer at the age of 15, which led to her having her right leg amputated. Years later, she rose to fame thanks to her blog of the same name, on which she opened up about her disability, travel, lifestyle, and, of course, fashion.

When asked what she thought the future of beauty was in an interview earleir this year, Cax told DazedDigital:

“I don’t know what it is, I’m hoping the future of beauty is more than the surface. It’s inclusive, it’s diverse, it’s a true representation of people from different walks of life. I want people to see beauty as more than just what you see on the surface.”

We’d say she certainly made her mark.

Our hearts go out to Cax’s loved ones at this time.
