Riley Keough has a theory on what REALLY caused her mom’s death.
It’s hard to believe we’re slowly coming up on the two-year anniversary of Lisa Marie Presley’s tragic passing. As we know, the late star’s official cause of death was revealed to be caused by a sequelae of small bowel obstruction after undergoing a bariatric procedure years prior. But while that may have been what “physically” did Lisa Marie in, Riley suspects something else was the emotional reason.

During an interview for People’s latest cover story, the 35-year-old claimed her mother couldn’t ever fully recover from the death of her son and Riley’s brother Benjamin Keough. She told the outlet:
“My mom tried her best to find strength for me and my younger sisters after Ben died, but we knew how much pain she was in.”
Ben tragically died by suicide in 2020 at just 27 years old.
Riley went on:
“My mom physically died from the after effects of her surgery, but we all knew she died of a broken heart.”
How utterly heartbreaking. We can only imagine the pain Lisa Marie felt after losing her baby boy. Such a tragedy.
If you didn’t already know, the late legend has a posthumous memoir coming out titled From Here to the Great Unknown. And in it, she talks about how she and Riley attempted to deal with the grief from their loss. In an excerpt obtained by People, she revealed they healed “by helping people. One kid wrote to Riley and said, ‘I didn’t kill myself last night because of what you said it would do to my family and those that are left behind. So thank you.’ That helped me. That brought me up.”
Absolutely gut-wrenching stuff. But what a miraculous thing they were able to do for others by sharing awareness about Ben’s death. They literally saved lives!
