Ryan Kwanten‘s character on True Blood has been a little short of open minded.
However, the actor is delighted to see his TB persona, Jason Stackhouse, evolve in his understanding of others — mainly vampires and gays.
In the show’s fifth season premiere, Jason has to deal with a gay vampier, Steve Newlin, that is ob-sess-ed with him.
Kwanten says he’s proud of the progressive way his character dealt with the situation. The hunky-hawt actor explains:
“When you look at Jason in season 1 he had a very tunnel view of the world and some would say an ignorant view. And now, that speech he gave to Newlin was ‘Look, I accept who you are, whether it’s a vampire, whether it’s a gay man, or both. But that’s not the way this dog barks.’ That’s a huge step for Jason to change his spots… Towards the end of the season, which we are shooting now, he puts the things he has learned into practice and starts to show his true colors.”
For a show that is purdy much a not-so-subbtle metaphor for civil rights, some character growth is to be expected!
Ryan makes a great point!
Jason is one of the few characters whose predictive has progressed over the corse of the series.
