As we mentioned yesterday, of the four football players missing at sea off the coast of Florida, only Nick Schuyler has been found. He was rescued on Monday and had been floating in the water since Saturday afternoon!
However, as of Tuesday evening, the US Coast Guard will suspend its search for the three missing men, two of which are NFL players and a friend.
The men missing are Oakland Raiders linebacker Marquis Cooper, free-agent Corey Smith and former college player William Bleakley.
During a news conference today, the Coast Guard announced, “We’re extremely confident that if there were any survivors on the surface of the water that we would have found them.”
During their 50 search missions in the last 60 hours, they have found a cooler and a life jacket.
Bruce Cooper, Marquis’ father, said in a statement, “Marquis is an avid fisherman; he goes deep sea fishing any opportunity he gets. Two years ago I went deep sea fishing with him. I swore I would never do so again; I didn’t like the fact that I couldn’t see land.”
Our thoughts and prayers are with the family and friends of the three men still missing.
