Meghan Markle is most recently getting praise for her work editing this month’s issue of British Vogue.
But it wasn’t just excellent taste she had to employ in her role as guest editor — it was her stealth skills as well!

She somehow managed to keep her involvement secret from almost every one of the women she highlighted on her cover!
So how did she accomplish that?
Well, Salma Hayek was apparently the only one she felt was trustworthy to keep the secret — and now that it’s out, she’s spilling!
The actress told CNN all about her phone call with the Her Royal Highness — and how shocked she was to receive it!
Vogue editor Edward Enninful, who was a personal friend, began the call, then made the surprising switch:
“I was in the car and he said, ‘Listen, I’m going to put somebody on the phone. Are you in the car with people?’ I said ‘Yes.’ He told me ‘you cannot say the name of the person I’m calling.’ Frankly, I thought it was a joke.”
Salma thought it was just going to be mutual friend Naomi Campbell playing a prank on her.
After all, whom did she know who would require this kind of secrecy?
“But then it took a while for the other person to get on the phone. Then she got on the phone and introduced herself.”
Salma says Meghan, whom she’d never met before then, “was very kind and loving and easy going.”
“I got excited. I’m thinking and I’m trying to find the logic to this strange day. She explained her passion for women and what’s happening currently. And then she said she’s doing this with British Vogue. She said, you know, she was the guest editor of British Vogue, and I’m thinking maybe it’s going to be an article on what we’re doing, you know, with Kering and women…”
Salma is on the board of the Kering Foundation, which fights violence against women, and has worked with women’s charities for over two decades.
“She said no, ‘I’m [doing a cover], I’m not going to be the cover, I’m putting my favorite women on the cover. And you’re definitely one of them. You’re one of the first ones.’ I was like completely shocked. I did not see it coming that way. She started talking about how she’s been watching me and why me.”
Salma jumped at the idea. She gushed:
“I loved that she didn’t want to be on the cover. She used her light to put it upon others, the ones who inspired her.”
However, it was still a secret to all the other women. Salma says she didn’t tell anyone — not her husband, not her publicist, no one!

She now reveals:
“I couldn’t talk about it and I didn’t.”
That meant not even telling the other women involved, including Jane Fonda, Gemma Chan, and Laverne Cox, as Salma helped to keep everything secret — even from the subjects:
“I felt very honored when we did this photo shoot. No one else knew what it was for. Only me and the photographer, Peter Lindbergh, knew. And all the girls were getting their picture taken for the cover and they didn’t know that Meghan was how they got there.”
She says Meghan called her again this week after the issue was revealed to congratulate her on her secret mission.
So the question is, since their collaboration was so successful, will they meet again? Maybe in person this time?
Salma teases:
“Maybe. Maybe it’s not something you’re gonna see.”
The two definitely share something.
“I think we had a connection before we even talked to each other. The shock is that this person had been watching me and I had no idea. It’s really beautiful and I really do think that we have a special connection.”
OK, this is too good. Now we just need to see Salma at one of those upper crust British social events sporting one of those amazing hats!
