We just can’t believe this could be true. We sincerely hope it’s not.
You might remember back in September when we told you that Sarah Jessica Parker was rumored to become the new face of Halston.
It seemed like a great idea – a match made in heaven, even: it would be great press for SJP and could be just what the doctor ordered for the lagging American label.
Well, that great idea has just taken a very hard left turn. Now, reports are swirling that Halston loves the SJ so much, they don’t they want to bring on the fashion icon as just a model: they reportedly want to set her up in a new creative director/design director gig.
What the hey?!
Has the industry learned NOTHING from the Lindsay Lohan/Ungaro fiasco??
Yes, we think enlisting Sarah Jessica to face the brand is a great idea. She is American, iconic, and Halston’s target demographic loves her. But as a consultant? Helllll no. SJP enjoyed some success with her collaboration with Gap, but her own line, Bitten, failed miserably. And if there’s one thing we should all have learned by now, it’s that good style does not a designer make.
Then again, Sarah Jessica’s fashion cred is way, way more worthy than that of Lindsanity. Still, though, why risk it?
Let’s hope this is just hearsay – Parker’s rep declined to comment and a rep for Halston couldn’t be reached.
No more celeb collaborations in fashion houses!
Let them be the face and keep the brains to someone with the background!
