Avid viewers of the Today Show were alarmed when Savannah Guthrie suddenly disappeared from the screen in the middle of the episode on Wednesday — only to return as if nothing had happened on Thursday. What’s going on?!
The journalist was all smiles on Thursday morning as she opened the show with Willie Geist, who’s covering for Craig Melvin. She was even cracking Legally Blonde jokes, teasing:
“Good morning and welcome to Today. So happy you’ve gotten up with us this morning. What, like it’s hard, Willie? I can’t say that line enough!”

Willie pointed out her “giddiness this morning” and laughed that she’s “our chief Legally Blonde correspondent.” Savannah gushed about how much she loves the film and is looking forward to the upcoming series, Elle, which just released a teaser trailer. So, a super light-hearted moment!
But it comes right after Savannah abruptly exited the taping of the show just one day prior. About 90 minutes into Wednesday’s broadcast, she disappeared as Willie explained:
“Savannah had to leave a little early. She’ll be right back tomorrow, though.”
Naturally, theories spiraled online that she might’ve learned urgent information in the search for her missing mother, Nancy. However, no new intel has come out in the investigation, and a source told Page Six she left “for some sort of appointment, and her exit had nothing to do with her mom.”
Huh…
But you pair her overly joyful attitude with the exit, and it makes you wonder if there’s any movement behind the scenes? Gosh, we would sure love that!!!
