Savannah Guthrie is begging for help after new details about ransom notes in the search for Nancy Guthrie have come to light.
During Tuesday morning’s episode of Today, Craig Melvin explained that “NBC News is reporting new information about one of the notes sent to multiple media outlets.” As Perezcious readers know, shortly after the 84-year-old went missing, media outlets received two notes from the alleged kidnapper. The first was a request for money. The second, according to NBC News this week, claimed Nancy had died.

No apology or request for payment was made in this note either, according to the outlet. Soon after getting this note, Savannah and her siblings shared an Instagram video in which they addressed the kidnapper, saying they “understand” the message but wanted their mother returned so they could “celebrate” with her. Oof. It was one of the hardest videos to watch at the time, and now we understand with even more clarity what they were trying to say…
BTW, TMZ has also come forward to share new details about ransom notes they received from someone — allegedly not the kidnapper — claiming to have information. They claimed their letter did not specifically say Nancy had died, though it was suggested when it was noted that time was “no longer of the essence.” So far, authorities have not been able to identify any suspects in the case.
And as you can imagine, this is all so painful for the Guthrie family. Savannah was in the studio for Tuesday’s show, having to listen as heartbreakingly difficult details of her mother’s disappearance were shared with the world. After the segment aired, Craig told a teary Savannah:
“The bravery and courage with which you have done this job every day since that happened, nothing short of remarkable.”
Truly! Savannah then told her colleagues:
“I love you guys, and I love this place. This is unusual and unprecedented — to say the least — to be sitting here.”
The 54-year-old shared that she does not have a comment on the new information and was not involved in NBC‘s coverage. That said, she is back to work and wants to use her time in the spotlight to help the investigation, she explained:
“But I can’t pretend I’m not here. And so since I am, I wanted to just take the opportunity to ask people, really to beg people, to come forward. Somebody knows something.”
Referencing her siblings Annie and Camron, she added:
“This is a new story that today is on your radar, but this is the life that my sister lives, that I live, that my brother lives, that our extended families live, that our children live every day. And we are in agony and we cannot be at peace.”
While wiping away tears, the journalist implored:
“So no matter how much I try to come out here every day and to smile and find that joy — and I will, I promise I will — this is a moment to tell you that we need your help. We’re begging for your help. And I’m not gonna miss that opportunity.”
Reminding viewers of the $1 million reward up for grabs, she concluded:
“So please, if you’re watching, no matter how small, the reward is there. You can tell us. It can be anonymous. Please do the right thing for us, for our family, for our children. We love our mom, and we’ll never stop looking for her ever.”
So emotional. Watch (below):
Gosh. We cannot imagine how challenging this has all been. We hope someone will do the right thing and speak out so this family can gain the clarity and peace they so desperately deserve after such a horrendous tragedy.
