Scott Disick Was 'Spiraling In His Thoughts,' Struggling With Quarantine 'Downtime' Ahead Of Rehab Stint

More on Scott Disick's rehab stint as he copes with the death of his parents

Just like so many people around the world struggling to cope with the “new normal” around the coronavirus pandemic, so too has Scott Disick been suffering from the challenges of quarantine and self-isolation.

As we reported and updated on Monday, the Keeping Up with the Kardashians star briefly checked into in a Colorado rehab center before abruptly leaving after a photo of him inside the facility was leaked. Now, we know more about the reasons behind his stay, and what’s apparently been going on behind the scenes.

A source spoke to E! News about the young father’s stint in the treatment facility, reporting the whole thing stems from being quarantined during the ongoing coronavirus pandemic. The insider, who noted Disick “does really well when he is keeping busy” was challenged by the self-isolation, which gave him “more downtime” and left him “spiraling in his thoughts.”

A second insider summed it up more succinctly, saying:

“He has harbored pain that will surface and put him in a bad place.”

Among other things, the pain stems significantly from the sudden back-to-back deaths of the reality TV star’s parents, Bonnie and Jeffrey. Scott’s mother passed away unexpectedly at the age of 63 in late 2013, with her husband passing from cancer less than three months later in a Los Angeles nursing home.

Scott has been devastated by the sudden double loss ever since — even ironically discussing it in-depth for the first time during the latest season of KUWTK. In the episode, a family friend brings old pictures from home to help Scott remember the good times with his parents.

Speaking in a confessional about their death and its aftermath, even now, nearly seven years later, Scott said:

“Losing my parents is not an easy subject for me to talk about. It puts me in a very vulnerable place, to remember them and think about them. I think when my parents passed, it was too hard to talk about. As much as I was dreading looking through some photos because I thought it was going to bring out sad memories, but the truth is, it brought up so many amazing memories and things that I forgot. It’s definitely not easy, the fact that I don’t have my parents here. And I miss them a lot, but I think the more I talk about my parents, the more my kids will feel connected to them and remember them.”

As hopeful as he may have sounded there, though, this is clearly still a very serious and difficult issue for Sofia Richie‘s boyfriend — and understandably so.

“Out Of Control”

Insiders close to the KarJenner fam report both Sofia and Kourtney Kardashian were acutely aware of changes in Scott’s behavior and decision-making over the past few weeks, leading to the rehab stint in the first place. A source stated Sofia was the first to notice, adding:

“[Sofia was] extremely concerned with the choices he was making and how out of control he became very quickly. She tipped off Kourtney [about the situation] because she didn’t know what else to do.”

Kourt, who has been through rough patches with the Flip It Like Disick star before, immediately “knew something was up,” and acted quickly to get him help.

The insider shared:

“Kourtney was very upset, and knew something was up by his unresponsiveness to matters and convos that pertained to the kids. She had been through this before many times, and put a halt to it immediately. She ultimately gave him an ultimatum and he had no choice but to seek help.”

Wow. And so, he did. His rehab stint turned out to be quite abbreviated due to the illicit photo, as we reported yesterday, but that’ll be a separate (serious) issue to hash out as time goes on. For now, we just hope Scott has the help, support, and love that he needs during such a tough time. Sending our love and prayers!
