Is Lionel Richie finally on board with his daughter’s relationship with Scott Disick?
Sofia Richie and the Flip It Like Disick star have been dating for nearly two years now, and while the rest of us have warmed up to the happy couple, we were never quite sure where the 21-year-old’s father stood on the subject… until now, that is!

According to recent reports, the Grammy winner has officially “accepted” the pair’s romance!
A source who spoke with E! News dished:
“Lionel has accepted their relationship but still isn’t entirely 100 percent on board with Scott mostly because of the age difference and how young Sofia is. Lionel can see how happy Sofia is though so he is definitely making more of an effort with Scott.”
Despite his past hesitations about the couple’s 15-year age difference, it sounds like the patriarch finally came around and is reportedly making “more of an effort” with getting to know his potential son-in-law.
Oh, ’cause we all know where that ship is headed someday!
The insider noted Kourtney Kardashian‘s ex and his new girlfriend are doing really well right now and the two spent Thanksgiving weekend with her pops.
“Scott and Sofia are still together and all is well for now. They spent Thanksgiving with Lionel Richie and they all flew together on his private jet for their holiday trip.”
There must have been good food AND good vibes flowing at that dinner table because the source added Lionel and Scott made a substantial leap forward in their relationship over the holiday:
“He is a really honest, up front kind of guy and feels like his father-daughter relationship with Sofia is more important than anything so he’s trying to be there for Sofia and to be supportive of her despite his reservations about her relationship. They all had a really great holiday together though and progress is for sure being made between Lionel and Scott.”
Awww, such great news!
This positive confirmation pales in comparison to the HEAVY shade the Hello singer threw when the reality TV star first started dating his daughter back in 2017.
Speaking to Australia’s Daily Telegraph, the 70-year-old entertainer once said:
“She’s 19. When you’re 19 you know everything. Is it going to be for life? I don’t know. But for right now it’s just a phase and I’m going to stand real still in the corner, get me a good drink and not make too much noise.”
We guess that the backseat approach didn’t do him any favors because the lovebirds seem stronger than ever!
A different insider at Us Weekly shared the All Night Long crooner still “worries about his daughter, like any father,” but Lionel has “come to see that Scott is a positive influence” on Sofia. However, the American Idol judge is apparently a BIG fan of how the 35-year-old’s “business acumen has been rubbing off” on his youngest child and sees the couple “both love each other and have built a life together.”

Even with this highly coveted stamp of approval, Disick will continue to tread carefully as he builds a bond with his girl’s dad. The source explained to Us:
“Since Scott is a father himself, he recognizes the importance of a close bond with his children and would never want to harm the relationship between Lionel [Richie] and [the singer’s daughter] Sofia, especially because Scott’s parents have both passed away. He values family above all else and will always look to build a bond with Sofia and her family, and would never want to detract from it.”
Definitely the smart and mature way to go about getting that blessing, dude!
