Demi Engemann apparently would go to extreme lengths to stir up even more drama for The Secret Lives of Mormon Wives!
During Tuesday’s episode of The Viall Files podcast, Mikayla Matthews and Jessi Ngatikaura dropped a bombshell while opening up about the cast’s falling out with their co-star and former best friend! They claimed Demi concocted a plan to pretend she cheated with Taylor Frankie Paul’s ex-boyfriend Dakota Mortensen during Season 1! WHAT! Mikayla explained:
“Demi wanted to have a huge finale for season 1 and so she was like, ‘We can make up this whole thing that I have an affair with Dakota.’ We were like, ‘Oh, that’s a weird thing to say.’”
Ya think? Beyond betraying a friend and totally defrauding the audience… let’s not forget that Demi is also a married woman! Would her husband, Bret Engemann, be in on it as well? There is no way he would have been down to follow along with the plotline, right? Or would he??

Jessi recalled how she “had a whole plan,” adding:
“It wasn’t like, ‘Hey, guys, this could be funny.’ It was like, ‘We could meet in a car and then they could catch us.’”
WTF…
Wanting to orchestrate a fake affair with your friend’s then-partner is not “funny.” If you’re all in on it, then… it’s just poorly scripted melodrama performed by non-actors?? If Taylor wasn’t meant to be in on it, it’s a horrible thing to do to her. And all for what? To get extra camera time and a juicy story? Seriously? Jessi continued:
“It says a lot that there are seven women who feel the exact same way about her. It’s not just me that had issues.”
Sadly, Taylor couldn’t avoid a cheating scandal during the first season after all. She discovered Dakota may have done a lot more than kiss a woman named Jenna at the beginning of their relationship. Then, Season 2 picked up with Taylor and Jenna meeting up to hash out the situation. The TikToker saw the flirty text messages with Dakota, realizing he lied to her and did have a full-on relationship with the other woman while hooking up with her. Oof. Taylor and Dakota’s relationship ended (sort of) after the shocking reveal.
Demi also ended up having an affair drama, btw. The cast filmed an episode for Season 2 of Vanderpump Villa, where Marciano Brunette caught feelings for her. And something may have gone down between them. She has maintained “nothing happened with Marciano” despite rumors. But you know… A lot of fans aren’t buying that one.
Anyway, Demi clearly didn’t need the fake cheating storyline to keep the show interesting! The group has plenty of drama to keep viewers coming back for more! Watch Jessi and Mikayla’s full interview on The Viall Files (below):
At this time, Demi hasn’t responded to the accusations. However, her hubby did! On Tuesday, Bret took to the comments section of Nick Viall‘s TikTok video of Mikayla and Jessi’s confession to say she was only being “sarcastic”:
“This whole thing is so blown out of proportion and ridiculous. Demi made a sarcastic suggestion while participating in a conversation that the producers asked the cast to have to brainstorm possible cliffhangers for season one. All of the women were throwing out ideas. Another woman in the cast suggested that ‘we should pretend like some of us are currently swinging’. Most of the ideas suggested were far fetched and said as a joke.”
