We continue to feel so bad for Jennifer Affleck…
During the first season of The Secret Lives of Mormon Wives, she went to Las Vegas with the cast, her husband Zac Affleck, and Taylor Frankie Paul’s boyfriend Dakota Mortensen. But it was just the girls on one particular excursion. Jessi Ngatikaura surprised them with the VIP experience at Chippendales. Not only was Jennifer uncomfortable with the famed male stripper revue, but she was concerned about what her hubby would think. After all, these are very conservative men we’re talking about.
Well, all hell broke loose once she told Zac about the show.
He went OFF on her over text, threatening to divorce her, claiming she had no “values and morals,” and saying he did not love her anymore. All because she went to Chippendales! Dude made it sound like she cheated on him! Even if she had enjoyed the show, it would NOT have been that serious. But what actually happened was that Jennifer had no idea about Jessi’s plan to take them to the show AND she left before the banana hammocks even showed up! She did nothing wrong AT ALL by any metric! And yet he blew up, saying horrible things about his wife! No one ever deserves to be spoken to in that disgusting way. And if this is how he talked to her on the show, we can’t imagine what happens once the cameras are gone. Oof.

Oh, and we have to point out that during this drama, where was Zac? He was busy gambling away the money SHE gave him for hours — another vice that’s frowned upon in the Mormon Church. So hypocritical for Zac to call her out for having no “values and morals” and creating a bad “image” for their “family” and “church,” all while he’s over here gambling. Just saying.
Following the horrible events in the Vegas episode, fans have been fully on Team Jen. The Affleck family, on the other hand? Get ready for your blood to boil. They are now defending Zac — while trashing Jennifer!
Yes, we are serious. As the show has found its way to the fam, Zac’s brother AJ Affleck took to Instagram to write how “extremely disappointed” he was in the TikTok star over “the fake manufactured representation of” his bro:
“Zac is one of the best guys in the world, ask anyone who knows him personally. I am beyond saddened by the fake manufactured representation of him. I’m extremely disappointed in Hulu, his wife, and these fake girls. This backs up the very reason I decided to never be shown on the show. It’s a fake nasty representation of an amazing religion and people. I pray for my brother, and others deeply affected by this nonsense.”
WTF.
Last time we checked, the producers didn’t write and send that horrific text message to Jennifer from his phone. No. It was Zac. Nothing was “manufactured” about what happened that night and in other episodes. He continuously showed his narcissistic and disgusting behavior toward Jennifer with zero shame. Bro should be “extremely disappointed” at HIM for how he treated his wife instead — not putting her on blast for doing nothing wrong!
And sadly, AJ was not the only family member to come to Zac’s defense. His cousin, Kadee, slammed Jennifer for trashing Zac, writing:
“If you all knew how this show and narrative was twisted you would be disgusted. Hulu completely lied to my family on what the show was going to be about, the title of the show, how people were going to be perceived, etc. Your common reality show bulls**t. My cousin and his family are amazing people who bent over backwards for these producers, welcomed them into their home to give the world a view into their lives and culture, only to have their narrative twisted and their son trashed by his own wife.”
Again, no one from Hulu made Zac act the way he acted on the show. That was all him. The fact that multiple people are blaming others for his own behavior is sickening. As for Zac getting “trashed by his own wife?” If anything, she spoke too highly of him and swept their problems under the rug at times. The only reason he looks so bad on the series is because of what HE did! You can’t get the villain edit without actually doing some villainous s**t. Sorry, it’s true.
Kadee continued:
“They have done nothing but support Jen and Zac through this whole process and taking care of their children so Zac can try and focus on school and Jen can promote this crap show. Zac is the kindest soul and would bend over backwards for anyone in his life. Is he traditional in his way of thinking, yes. With that comes an expectation that you represent yourself a certain way. He may have over-reacted, but he was frustrated and we were all living through it with him. Put down your pitchforks and realize you are all being fed lies.”
“He may have over-reacted, but…” NOPE! There is zero excuse for his behavior in the situation. Zero.
Sadly there’s more. Zac’s aunt Allison Leishman chimed in to say online:
“Actually I don’t give a s**t. My nephews wife is in the show and I’m so disgusted that she would do this to her family.”
Jeez. Even Zac’s mom Kristel weighed in on the matter. And no, she did not express her shame over his behavior. Instead, in the comments section of an Instagram post sharing a statement from the Mormon Church about Secret Lives of Mormon Wives, she called out Hulu for trying to “destroy” families and marriages:
“I love everything about this statement. As someone who has been personally affected by this let me tell you … Hulu is in the business of destroying marriages and families. So now I pray we can all judge less and love more and let our lights continue to shine to show the world who we really are.”
Well, we already found out who Zac really is…

This is so infuriating. We just cannot believe the family placed the blame on Jen and Hulu for his actions. And this needs to be said one more time. All of them should be “disgusted” at Zac and, quite frankly, at themselves for defending him! The way they’re circling the wagons is so patriarchal and subservient, we can’t even deal with it.
But we shouldn’t be surprised this is how the family treats Jennifer. Zac clearly got his horrible behavior from somewhere. Plus, the birthday post that Kristel wrote for Jen earlier this year says it all about what the family thinks of her:
