Can you imagine if Selena Gomez and Hailey Bieber actually became friends? Justin Bieber would HAAAAAAAATE IT! LOLz!
OK, we aren’t quite there yet, but we are far, far closer than we ever expected, especially after this week’s shady social media call-and-response.
It all started when Selena released her comeback single Lose You To Love Me, a song which was even more clearly about Justin Bieber than all her other songs, in particular the line:
“In two months, you replaced us / Like it was easy / Made me think I deserved it / In the thick of healing, yeah”
The “you replaced us” line clearly refers to the Biebs’ sudden love of my life status with Hailey just weeks after things ended for umpteenth time between the longtime on again, off again lovers.
Not only did the Sorry singer have another girlfriend who seemed to have been waiting in the wings, he had years of backstory to go with the relationship. And yeah, they up and made it official this year.

The meaning was obvious to the rest of us, so surely it wasn’t lost on Hailey. So how did she react?
Oh, she posted a snapshot of her phone playing the track I’ll Kill You by Summer Walker.

Selena then responded to what seemed like a hell of a threatening piece of shade by telling fans in an Instagram Live vid:
“I am so grateful for the response of the song. However, I will never stand for women tearing other women down. So please be kind to everyone… Please be kind, I don’t like seeing people being disrespectful or rude to other people, so please don’t do that.”
Meanwhile Hailey denied there was ever any kind of reaction on her part.
In response to fans’ pretty much universal read of her IG, she wrote:
“Please stop with this nonsense… there is no ‘response.’ This is complete BS.”
So was she really misunderstood? The victim of bad timing? Or was she backtracking after realizing she’d gone way too far??
We suppose we’ll never truly know the answer, but either way the pendulum is coming back the other direction now.
Hailey actually seems to have become the first one to reach out. The gesture of peace? A sort of Information Age olive branch: she liked an Instagram photo.
No, it wasn’t one of Selly’s, but it was a pic featuring the singer.
Their mutual friend Raquelle Stevens posted a photo with Selena, Ashley Cook, and Courtney Lopez, out celebrating the release of the new songs.

And the surprising thing? Hailey liked it!

Is this Hailey reaching out, trying to make peace? Approving of the friendship certainly seems like a start!
Or is this also complete BS and has nothing to do with Selena but just a like of her friend’s photo?
What do YOU think??
We’re keeping our fingers crossed — and only partially because of how hilariously uncomfortable it would make Justin if they ever became besties! LOLz!
