This is just wrong on so many levels we barely know where to begin!
After running in the LA Marathon, Monika Allen was surprised to get a call from SELF magazine asking if they could use a photo of her and a friend wearing a tutu during the race!
However, she had no idea when the issue was released that they would pretty much be making fun of her outfit by featuring her in a column called “The BS Meter!” They wrote:
“A racing tutu epidemic has struck NYC’s Central Park, and it’s all because people think these froufrou skirts make you run faster.”
This is already mean enough on its own, but we’re guessing (or at least hoping) the magazine had no idea Monika was running in the marathon while receiving chemotherapy for brain cancer (although her friend’s number badge clearly says DIE TUMOR DIE on it)!!
Also, the reason they were wearing such wacky outfits was to promote her company Glam Runners, which has raised nearly $5,600 selling tutus and has donated it ALL to Girls on the Run, an organization that strives to keep young women healthy and active!
Obviously Monika was not happy with the spread and says she probably wouldn’t have allowed them to use the picture if she knew how it was going to be used! We can’t say we blame her!
Maybe SELF magazine should have thought that through before publishing!
Stay strong, Monika! You’re doing AMAZING things in this world!
Who cares what someone is wearing when they go out and stay healthy??
