Shannen Doherty Admits 'Cancer Has Changed My Life For The Better' & Reacts To Michael Bublé's Son's Recent Diagnosis

Shannen Doherty
Shannen Doherty
is feeling grateful through her cancer battle.
As you know, the 45-year-old was diagnosed with breast cancer earlier last year — and on Saturday, the Charmed actress was honored at the American Cancer Society‘s annual gala in El Lay.
Speaking with the Press Association, Miz Doherty revealed the positive impact her diagnosis has had on her life:

“I’m feeling ridiculously lucky and very blessed. Cancer has changed my life for the better. It’s made me a better human being. It stripped away all of the walls and the barriers. It exposes any lie in your life whatsoever. It exposes who’s not really truly there for you and who really is there for you. It’s this brilliant thing where you just look around and think, ‘Oh my God, this person is amazing, they’re showing up for me in a way I never expected’.”

Shannen praised her mother Rosa, her husband Kurt Iswarienko, and gal pals Sarah Michelle Gellar and Chelsea Handler for their endless support during her treatment:

“It’s this amazing thing where you look at people and realize their worth and what good hearts they have because they’re not running. That’s what cancer does. It strips everything where everyone, including you, is laid bare.”

Gellar took the stage to present the Heathers star with the Courage award, where the Buffy The Vampire Slayer alum said:

“She has always been a courageous person but over the last year she has become a one-woman army. Fearless yet full of heart, crushing cancer like a slayer – takes one to know one. In an age when celebrities are afraid to walk out of the house without make up, Shannen is proudly displaying her shaved head, telling the world if this can happen to me, it can happen to anyone.”

Doherty responded to the amazing intro by saying:

While speaking with ET on the red carpet, the celeb also reacted to Michael Bubl├â┬⌐‘s three-year-old son’s recent cancer diagnosis:

“I can’t even begin to touch that one, to be honest, because it’s a 3-year-old. I would imagine your child having cancer is devastating as a parent. Just trust in your doctors. Make sure you have amazing doctors, a great team, and know that organizations like the American Cancer Society [and] Stand Up to Cancer, they are doing so much good for cancer. And [there is] so much research that we have much better chances now.”

Adding:

“Stay positive. That positivity, that outlook on life that you can get through something, it actually does get you through.”

What a difficult battle to go through.
We are so inspired by Shannen’s ability to remain positive and be a pillar of strength for others.
