Sofia Vergara Ordered To Pay Ex Nick Loeb Almost $80K Over Frozen Embryo Battle -- & He Wanted Even MORE!

Sofia Vergara paying ex over embryo battle.

Sofia Vergara’s frozen embryo battle has cost her a pretty penny!

A Los Angeles judge ordered the Modern Family star to pay her ex Nick Loeb $76,433 in attorney’s fees and $2,959.26 in costs over their lengthy legal battle.

As we reported, Loeb filed suit on behalf of the two frozen embryos they created when they were a couple back in 2013. Using Louisiana’s specific laws — despite neither living nor entering into agreements in that state — he named the embryos (Emma and Isabella) and cosigned their claim that the actress’ refusal to allow them to be brought to term was depriving them of their inheritance.

Sofia tried to shut down this nonsense In February 2017. She went to court to argue the businessman signed a contract where he’s not allowed to bring the embryos to term without her permission, but Loeb argued she was violating his First Amendment rights to free speech.

While the suit has since been dismissed, the exes have continued to be in legal war over other aspects of the case.

On June 7, 2019, Loeb since filed a motion requesting Vergara pay him $117,590.87 in attorney fees and $2,958.26 in costs. She responded on June 27 with an objection, according to court records, but he wasn’t about to back down.

In the court docs, Loeb argued he was successful in his anti-SLAPP motion as it related to the “malicious prosecution claim” by Vergara. For those who don’t know, SLAPPS are strategic lawsuits used to silence and harass critics by forcing them to spend money to defend these “baseless suits,” according to anti-slapp.com.

At the time, Loeb’s attorney, Jalesia McQueen, said in a statement:

“Sofia Vergara sued my client for malicious prosecution and that claim was dismissed by the court. The California statute requires that she repay him for costs and fees incurred in defending against that claim.  He is exerting this right in his most recent motion for fees.”

Vergara, for her part, argued the motion “should be denied or heavily reduced to the extent it is based on block billing and seeks fees and costs for services not shown to be related to the successful portion of the anti-SLAPP motion.”

In the end, the court sided with Vergara, determining the records didn’t justify the full fees sought by her ex. As a result, the amount she must pay Loeb was reduced by 35%.

Joe Manganiello’s wife is expected to make the total payment of $79,392.26 within 30 days of notice of this ruling.

As of today, the embryos are still in cryogenic storage.
