Like it or not, Paramount Pictures is going full speed ahead with its Sonic the Hedgehog movie rollout.
The film’s first trailer dropped on Tuesday, giving fans a deeper look at the big screen Sonic that had left many feeling disturbed when photos of his oddly muscular design were first released.
Unfortunately, the new trailer doesn’t do much to soften Sonic’s creep factor. Thanks to the realistic look the filmmakers are going for with this live-action/CGI hybrid film, the title character not only has human-looking calves — he also possesses a set of human teeth (or are they veneers?) that will unsettle your soul.

Other changes to the Sonic-verse the trailer teases includes: Sonic is now from space, his rings can apparently teleport people like Dr. Strange’s Sling Rings (when was Sonic trained by Tilda Swinton?!), and he listens to Gangsta’s Paradise as he runs.
Despite all that, the film doesn’t look entirely blasphemous. Ben Schwartz is doing some good voicework as the slightly snarky hero, James Marsden is trying is best playing Sonic’s human companion, and Jim Carrey is giving an appropriately over-the-top performance playing the villainous Dr. Robotnik.
