The Handmaid's Tale Author Says Star Wars Inspired 9/11! WHA???

no title
Some conspiracy theorists believe 9/11 was the U.S. government’s doing. Margaret Atwood, on the other hand, blames George Lucas.
In a recent interview with Variety, the famed author of the dystopian classic The Handmaid’s Tale claimed that the 2001 terrorist attack on the World Trade Center was inspired by Star Wars.

Atwood made the shocking claim during a discussion on the operatic adaptation of The Handmaid’s Tale, which kicked off in Denmark in 2000.
The production included faked footage of numerous monuments being blown up, including the World Trade Center, but the footage was removed from the opera after the 9/11 attacks the following year, because, according to Atwood, “it was no longer in the future.”
Because she wasn’t done creeping out the interviewer, the 78-year-old then added:

“They didn’t get that idea from my opera, don’t worry. They got the idea from Star Wars.”

Wait. What? How?

“Remember the first one? Two guys fly a plane in the middle of something and blow that up? The only difference is, in Star Wars, they get away. Right after 9/11, they hired a bunch of Hollywood screenwriters to tell them how the story might go next. Sci-fi writers are very good at this stuff, anticipating future events. They don’t all come true, but there are interesting ‘what if’ scenarios.”

So, we guess it was Hollywood screenwriters who told the Bush administration to launch a “War on Terror” and invade Afghanistan… and Iraq… and Syria?
Sad they couldn’t write a more original script. But hey, that’s Hollywood for you!
Anywho, watch the scene Atwood was referencing (below) from A New Hope.
