Steve Martin Performs Stand Up Comedy For The First Time In 35 YEARS! Read Some Of His Jokes!

Is Steve Martin going back to his roots!?
The comedic legend surprised the audience at New York’s Beacon Theatre on Thursday when he served as the warm-up act for Jerry Seinfeld‘s new monthly show!
Though his set was short, it was also historic — because it marked Martin’s first time performing standup in 35 years!
The funnyman’s last standup performance was back in 1981, when he walked away from the mic despite being one of the top stand up comedians in the country.

And to kick off his 10-minute set on Thursday, the 70-year-old addressed why he returned to the stage after such a long hiatus, quipping:

“I’m here tonight because of that old showbiz saying: Never lose a bet to Jerry.”

According to Vulture‘s Jesse David Fox, who attended the show, the actor seemed nervous at first but quickly got back in his groove with jokes reminiscent to his old material.
Martin said on stage:

“I’ll be honest with you, right off the top, because I’m a little upset with the Beacon Theatre. I was backstage and I used the restroom. And there was a sign that read, ├óΓé¼╦£Employees Must Wash Hands.’ And I could not find [pause] one employee [pause] to wash my hands.”

LOLz!
We really hope this means Steve will be doing more standup. We already can’t wait for his inevitable Netflix special!
