Steven Spielberg adapted the Tony-winning play War Horse into a movie because of his 15-year-old daughter.
Spielberg said:

“My daughter [Destry] is a great companion to have tonight because I made this movie with her in mind.
Ever since I showed her Black Stallion years ago, she said, ‘You’ve got to make a movie with a horse in it,’ so I did.”

Destry is the youngest of his seven children. She is a competitive horse jumper who competes internationally. She’s almost as big a horse lover as her dad. He said:

“I’ve been living with horses for about 15 years. We have eight on the property living with us. They are the most magnificent animals.
So when I saw War Horse on stage, I was even more ready to tell the story.”

He just hopes the movie passes the test of his biggest critic. At the premiere, he said:

“She’s never seen War Horse so tonight├óΓé¼Γäós a big test for the movie. She’s going to be the judge. I have a responsibility to get this right for her.”

Don’t worry. You’re Steven Spielberg. We’re sure it’ll be amazing.
