Ugh! It shouldn’t have to be like this!
A new study published in the American Journal of Public Health has found a high occurrence of depression, stress and anxiety in bisexual females.
In a survey from George Mason University women reported they often felt “invisible”, as lead researcher Lisa Lindley explains:
“There tends to be this expectation or standard that a person picks one sexual identity and sticks with it. I think there’s a lot of misunderstanding about bisexuals.”
Even more unfortunate is the survey’s revelation that bisexual men and women tend to abuse alcohol as teenagers. While men dropped their dependency on alcohol as they grew up, bisexual women’s alcoholism prevailed.
Lindley believes “their risk has a lot more to do with stigma.”
