Well this is certainly a change of direction!!
The biggest football game of the year is rapidly approaching as Super Bowl XLVIII is just a week and a half away, and it’s finally been announced who will sing the National Anthem!
So, who was chosen?
Renowned opera singer Renée Fleming will be taking the field to sing!
The 4-time Grammy winner is DEFINITELY deserving of the pre-game honor, however, it’s a pretty notable change considering the singers have been strictly pop stars over the past several years!
In fact, Renée will be the very first opera singer to sing at the Super Bowl!
The past six National Anthem performers have included Alicia Keys, Kelly Clarkson, Christina Aguilera, Carrie Underwood, Jennifer Hudson, and Jordin Sparks.
As one of the most decorated soprano singers in the world, it’s not too surprising that she would be picked for the singing duties, and it probably doesn’t hurt that she grew up in Rochester, New York and the Super Bowl is being played at Met Life Stadium in New Jersey!
We definitely can’t wait to see Ren├â┬⌐e kick things off the right way!
