The Trailer For 'Surviving R. Kelly Part II' Is Here, And It's Gut-Wrenching

The Surviving R. Kelly, Part II trailer is here, and as the title suggests, it is absolutely time for a reckoning.

Lifetime released the powerful four-minute long teaser on its YouTube channel on Wednesday morning, and after watching the full thing (above), we’re reeling from how intense and emotional it appears to be. The first part of the channel’s controversial documentary on embattled R&B singer R. Kelly was impactful in many ways on its own, but this appears to seriously take things to another level. Are y’all ready for this?

Set to kick off on January 2, the three-night-long series will feature new interviews about Kelly’s controversial history with perspectives from a variety of sources, reportedly “including new survivors, supporters, psychologists, and experts.”

In a press release sent out Wednesday to accompany the trailer, Lifetime confirmed Damon Dash, Mathew Knowles, Jimmy Maynes, #MeToo founder Tarana Burke, W. Kamau Bell, Sheryl Lee Ralph, Angela Yee, Jamilah Lemieux, Cook County State’s Attorney Kimberly M. Foxx, Michael Avenatti, Gloria Allred, and more are all interviewed on camera for the highly-anticipated sequel to the Emmy-nominated series.

The network goes on to state more in the press release about what viewers can expect to see, writing (below)

“[The Reckoning] will offer more insights into the ever-growing saga of the R&B singer, who is currently facing federal and state charges. The three-night event uncovers new stories with revealing details and explores why the voices of the girls that spoke up decades ago are only now being heard.”

And hear them, we shall. We’ll see how the sequel measures up soon enough, but judging by the content teased here, this is going to be intense.

As we noted, the three-night event is set to premiere on Lifetime beginning Thursday January 2 at 9:00 pm ET; it’ll continue and conclude on the following two evenings. Also, for those who may have missed (or want to re-watch) the influential first part of Surviving R. Kelly, Lifetime is running the first six-hour special in its entirety immediately before this premiere, starting on January 2 at 3:00 pm ET.

Honestly, Perezcious this is among the most intense, well-done trailers we’ve ever seen for a TV special like this. If the three-night event delivers like this teaser suggests… wow. Not to get ahead of ourselves, but this could be even more impactful than the unbelievable first part when it first saw the light of day!

What do y’all think about this trailer, and more generally about how the ongoing controversy surrounding R. Kelly continues to unfold? Were you as moved by this one as we were?!
