Debra Messing was NOT happy about what Susan Sarandon had to say regarding the 2016 election on MSNBC earlier this week!
The acclaimed actresses got into an all-out Twitter war after the 69-year-old revealed she wouldn’t vote for Hillary Clinton if Bernie Sanders didn’t get the Democratic nomination.

ICYMI, she even mentioned that some Bernie supporters might prefer Donald Trump to the former First Lady, which has had the gorgeous gals feuding for DAYS!
The Will & Grace star interpreted her fellow thespian’s comments to mean that she would rather vote for the scandalized celeb than Bill Clinton‘s wife, writing:
Susan Sarandon muses tht Trump prezcy wud b better 4 the country thn Hillary.Wonder if she’d say that if she were poor, gay,Muslim or immgrnt
— Debra Messing (@DebraMessing) March 30, 2016
Naturally, Susan went on the defensive, responding that media outlets have sensationalized her statements:
Watch the interview. Don’t just read the headlines. #Spin https://t.co/jW0cXq406K
— Susan Sarandon (@SusanSarandon) March 30, 2016
A fan responded to both ladies, explaining that the momma-of-three’s words implied that she herself would support the mogul if the 74-year-old was not the Democratic nominee:
@SusanSarandon @DebraMessing wtched the interview- & u clrly insinuated that DT would bring about the revol. sooner if BS wasn’t the nom
— GivingAHoot (@AccdntlActvst) March 30, 2016
The 47-year-old jumped on this post to slam Susan some more:
1-What kind of revolution?! A WALL?! #ImWithHer but if it’s Bernie/Trump I will ABSOLUTELY support BS. https://t.co/nqPGCDStCX
— Debra Messing (@DebraMessing) March 30, 2016
2- the idea that Susan Sarandon wud say that NOT supporting Hillary in a HRC/Trump race is a legitimate choice for Democrats, is insane.
— Debra Messing (@DebraMessing) March 30, 2016
The Thelma & Louise star attempted to explain herself by explaining how first-time voters and independents would be conflicted:
.@DebraMessing For those passionate, principled independents & first-time voters who would not be voting (1/2)
— Susan Sarandon (@SusanSarandon) March 30, 2016
.@DebraMessing if it weren’t for Sanders & whose interests HC doesn’t represent, it is a dilemma. (2/2)
— Susan Sarandon (@SusanSarandon) March 30, 2016
But the Along Came Polly alum fired back:
1-You are not a first time voter.Your position,as a life long advocate 4 the underepresented,is what matters to me. https://t.co/oLueAHCaUe
— Debra Messing (@DebraMessing) March 30, 2016
2-Your voice is powerful and influential. You not clearly disavowing Trump implies that u consider him (vs Hillary) https://t.co/oLueAHCaUe
— Debra Messing (@DebraMessing) March 30, 2016
3- There are people who need protections, and B Bernie or Hillary have that as a priority. Trump does not. https://t.co/oLueAHCaUe
— Debra Messing (@DebraMessing) March 30, 2016
Susan responded:
Agreed Trump doesn├óΓé¼Γäót, but she is not protective till it’s easy. Bernie makes morally correct choices when unpopular. https://t.co/28QVTpA4rI
— Susan Sarandon (@SusanSarandon) March 30, 2016
I was explaining to not take those voters for granted which will affect the platfiorm. https://t.co/24TNEVGep1
— Susan Sarandon (@SusanSarandon) March 30, 2016
This is y Bernie beats Trump by wider margin in polls & y independent voter support 4 HC can’t be taken for granted. https://t.co/ZT7xKOeC6a
— Susan Sarandon (@SusanSarandon) March 30, 2016
On Wednesday, Debra took a break from replying to and retweets the countless fans who have chimed in on the controversy to weigh in on the topic of independent voters, saying:
NOONE is taking Independents’ votes 4granted. My Point is their vote is IMPORTANT. The question posed was Hillary v Trump. @SusanSarandon
— Debra Messing (@DebraMessing) March 30, 2016
Then, the momma-of-one continued to bog down her Twitter page by retweeting and replying to almost everyone who is throwing their two cents in to this digital drama.
But the Rocky Horror Picture Show actress didn’t take too kindly to some of the things the New York native was sharing:
.@DebraMessing now RT-ing personal attacks. Cool. https://t.co/ajOo2NcCur
— Susan Sarandon (@SusanSarandon) March 30, 2016
Her fellow redhead apoligized, giving the Twitterverse hope that maybe a truce was in order:
I apologized and deleted the RT. https://t.co/QD08BE7z8r
— Debra Messing (@DebraMessing) March 31, 2016
But Susan was not grabbing for that olive branch:
.@DebraMessing Right, the diff is I’m not RT attacks on u to 350K+ followers
— Susan Sarandon (@SusanSarandon) March 31, 2016
And for some reason, Hocus Pocus alum Kathy Najimy joined in, saying:
@SusanSarandon U & I have marchd togethr in pro choice & pro lgbt marches on washington. how, w/ any conscience evn hint tht Ud vote 4 trump
— kathy najimy (@kathynajimy) March 31, 2016
And the Sanders supporter replied by saying her Anti-Hillary statement didn’t mean she was voting for the Donald:
.@kathynajimy I don’t “hint.” It’s important to understand that principled people, especially environmentalists (1/2)
— Susan Sarandon (@SusanSarandon) March 31, 2016
.@kathynajimy may not vote for a fracking candidate. That doesn’t mean they vote Trump. How’s @DebraMessing? (2/2)
— Susan Sarandon (@SusanSarandon) March 31, 2016
But Debra was still pissed that the Broadway babe didn’t make that clear from the get-go:
We understand. Had you said “I would vote for a 3rd party candidate” that wud have been clear and honest. #obtuse https://t.co/eY5pF3J9Uq
— Debra Messing (@DebraMessing) March 31, 2016
And brought Kathy BACK into the fray:
@kathynajimy did you see how @SusanSarandon just called us unprincipled? https://t.co/eY5pF3J9Uq
— Debra Messing (@DebraMessing) March 31, 2016
Susan, however, was not here for the immature instigation:
Alright @DebraMessing report me to the homeroom teacher and let’s STOP. @kathynajimy
— Susan Sarandon (@SusanSarandon) March 31, 2016
But naturally, Debra wanted the last word:
I repeat I have never insulted you. You, however, have. Whose the adult? Now, I’m done. @kathynajimy https://t.co/EYRefI7nbH
— Debra Messing (@DebraMessing) March 31, 2016
