Sydney Sweeney and Jonathan Davino are over.
We can’t say we’re surprised after word they’d called off their wedding. A broken engagement rarely comes with a consolation prize of five more years of dating, ya know?
We’ve already heard things were “rocky for a long time” with the couple — largely because of her success, by the sound of it. A source told Us Weekly last week most of their issues “stem from Sydney being extremely busy with work commitments” and Jonathan wishing ” they were able to spend more quality time together.”

And sure enough, that was the reason for the split. A source told People on Monday afternoon he’s not wrong about Sydney’s career coming first. It just took her a long time to admit it:
“She’s not ready to settle down. They only lasted for this long because it was hard for her to break it off. They didn’t split because there is no love. They split because she just wants to focus on her career right now.”
Is she insanely busy? Too much for most mortal men to deal with? Sure, probably. She’s a rising star who’s making her own luck, producing movies to star in so she’s CONSTANTLY swamped. And she wouldn’t have it any other way! The insider says Sydney is “in the middle of this magical career that she could only dream of a few years ago,” and “this is what she wants to focus on right now”:
“She’s exactly where she wants to be. Most people would feel overwhelmed by her working schedule this year, but not Syd. She’s all about working right now and very excited about all her projects.”
Those projects include the mythical third season of Euphoria, an adaptation of thriller novel The Housemaid, playing Kim Novak in a legendary Hollywood showmance tale called Scandalous!, and a biopic of female boxing great Christy Martin biopic — for which Sydney totally transformed her body into a fighting machine.
It’s a LOT. And there’s probably even more being added to her plate. But she can’t get enough right now. Of the career stuff, anyway. The source points out:
“What did make her overwhelmed though was her relationship and her wedding. She didn’t feel right about it.”
Well, she did the right thing then. You can’t just go through with it and hope that feeling subsides. Tough break for Davino, but good call by Sydney right now.
