We couldn’t think of a better way for Taylor Swift and Joe Alwyn to kick off 2020!
The pair rang in the new decade on the beach at a luxury water villa resort in the Maldives, according to a 27-year-old British singer who performed for a crowd that apparently included the famous couple.
Matthew Crane made no secret of his surprise audience members on Thursday when he shared a photo of himself singing to his Instagram with the caption:
“So I can now finally reveal who I sung to on New Year’s Eve in the Maldives, probably the most notable Pop Star at the moment, the one and only @taylorswift and @joe.alwyn.”
The singer went on to write how Joe and Tay “were both so friendly and kind” to him when he performed, and even gave him “a standing ovation” and “complimented [him] on [his] voice.” Wow!

He added:
“It was truly an honour and an experience that I will never forget.”
We bet!
Crane spoke about the special performance in an interview with E! News published this week, noting the 30-year-old songstress and 28-year-old actor were two of the last to arrive at the beach-side event where he was performing.

He explained:
“They were the last group to arrive, so there was no one else on the jetty. I saw this pretty, pretty couple and their friends, and as she walked up from where she got off the boat, I realized who she was — it was Taylor Swift and Joe Alwyn.”
The performer went on to reveal Tay was decked out in “a really pretty black sequins dress that went down to her knees,” while The Favourite actor opted for “a nice collared shirt with shorts or trousers” — which was okay, “because they were on an island, [and] there was a lot of people wearing smart-casual clothes.”
After he finished singing, Crane said the couple “stood up and clapped,” continuing:
“They both said simultaneously, ‘You’ve got an amazing voice, that was really good. Well done to you.’ And then they walked off to the main event, which was on the other part of the island … Taylor’s best friend, Abigail [Anderson Lucier], came up to me [and] said, ‘How does that voice come out of that small, young body of yours?’ She told me I was brilliant and she shook my hand.”
High praises!
When asked what it was like to perform in front of one of music’s biggest stars and her boyfriend, the singer said:
“It was just so intimate. It was me, a dancer and them, so it was strange singing to one of the biggest pop stars in the world right now.”
Sounds like a dream come true!
