We all have Andrea and Scott Swift to thank for Taylor Swift crafting one of her best songs!
The 36-year-old pop star sat down with The New York Times Magazine after being named one of the 30 Greatest Living American Songwriters, where she opened up about the process of writing some of her most beloved tracks, including Love Story from the Fearless album! We know you’ve likely heard it a million times by now, but listen to the song (below) for a refresher!

In the interview, Taylor recalled that she began no longer caring about what people may think about her songs when she created Love Story. The inspiration behind the hit? She had been so angry at her parents for not allowing her to go on a date with an older man when she was 17 years old that she decided to channel all her feelings into music:
“I think the first time I felt I don’t care if people hate this because I love it so much was when I wrote the song ‘Love Story’ when I was 17, sitting in my bedroom, mad at my parents because they wouldn’t let me go on a date with a guy who was too old so I shouldn’t have been on a date with him anyway.”
Although Taylor didn’t get to go out with the guy, it all worked out in the end! The song, released in 2008, is a classic in her discography! It even helped her win album of the year and best country album at the Grammys two years later! If Andrea and Scott hadn’t put their foot down, who knows how her career would’ve gone! So, the songstress jokingly added:
“And this is why you need to discipline your kids because they might write songs that go [to] No. 1.”

Taylor also noted in the same interview that she credits a lot of her success with writing on those intense emotions she felt at a young age, which she has tried to carry on throughout career:
“I have this very strong opinion that when you’re young you feel things on such an intense and detailed level. There’s an attention to detail when you’re 17-22 years old and you’re longing or you’re reaching and grasping but you’re never holding someone’s attention or someone’s love or someone’s dedication. You can’t understand why you spend all day thinking about it.”
