Teddi Mellencamp & Edwin Arroyave Were Trying To Save Marriage In Therapy For YEARS Before Split: ‘It Was A Long Time Coming’

Teddi Mellencamp and Edwin Arroyave’s divorce didn’t come out of the blue.

The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills alum shocked fans over the weekend after announcing that she had filed to end her 13-year marriage. In part, she wrote:

“After a great deal of care and consideration, I have made the difficult decision to file for divorce. My priority is my children and ensuring that every care is taken with their privacy and wellbeing throughout this new chapter. Making a public statement is not something I wanted to do, but in an effort to protect my family from undue speculation and rumors, I felt being open, honest and vulnerable was the best path forward.”

Edwin has yet to officially respond, but has cryptically posted about navigating “dark days.”

You wouldn’t be misguided to feel like the news came as a bit of a surprise. We mean, just last week Edwin absolutely raved about his now-estranged wife on Instagram amid her battle with melanoma. But in reality, divorce was far from a surprise for the pair — as they’ve reportedly been on shaky ground for years now. On Wednesday, an insider told Us Weekly:

“It was a long time coming and they have been up and down for the last seven-plus years. This isn’t the first time Teddi has wanted a divorce, and it has been an ongoing conversation between them for years.”

Wow! That must have been an emotionally exhausting seven years for both of them. The source noted they “have been in therapy over the years and make it work,” but that their roller coaster-style relationship just wasn’t feasible anymore:

“They have had some really high highs and low lows over the course of their marriage … They have agreed they are better as co-parents and can be amicable moving forward.”

It’s sad, but we’re glad that it sounds like they reached the decision respectfully.
