Teddi Mellencamp is not ready to talk about why she broke up with Edwin Arroyave!
In case you missed it, The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills alum announced over the weekend she’s divorcing her husband of 13 years. As for why? Teddi did not get into the details — and don’t expect the paperwork to shed any light, either!
According to court documents obtained by People on Monday, the former reality star filed for divorce on Friday, November 1, one day before her social media announcement. She asked for primary legal and physical custody of their three children — Slate, Cruz, and Dove— with “reasonable and frequent” visitation for Edwin. When it comes to money, Teddi demanded to be awarded spousal support and for the court to terminate his ability to get it. She also asked her estranged hubby to be responsible for all the attorney fees and costs.
Those are the deets. But what was most inneresting about her filing? The television personality listed the date of their separation as October 20! Days before the pair appeared all loved at the 23rd Annual New York Gala for the Melanoma Research Foundation! Edwin even gushed about her on social media on October 25! Take a look (below):
How did they go from this to divorce? What happened? Unfortunately, Teddi is not spilling the beans. She cited the essentially meaningless default irreconcilable differences as the reason for the split in her divorce filing. And if you expected her to say more on the Two Ts In A Pod podcast, prepare for disappointment!
When asked how she is by her co-host Tamra Judge on Tuesday’s episode, she responded she is — understandably — trying to feel her “best” for the sake of her kiddos. Right now, her top priority is her children’s privacy, which is why she won’t talk about divorce too much right now. She said:
“I am doing alright. At this point, I’m obviously only gonna share what I shared on social media. And I just am trying — I don’t even know how to say this eloquently — but I am just trying my hardest to make sure that my kids’ privacy is protected right now and that we’re able to have all these conversations. I just didn’t want it to blow up.”
If Teddi wanted to protect her kids, why did she announce the divorce on social media already? She explained:
“And for anybody that’s curious why I would have posted it — posted a statement — it’s because when your name is recognizable and you file in the court system, it becomes public.”
True! Someone would eventually see it on a court doc. Better to come clean about the situation before everyone finds out from the filing, we guess?
Tamra went on to ask people not to send Teddi any hateful messages, as “this is a very sensitive subject.” Absolutely! Regardless of what you think about the Bravolebrity, it’s not cool to send negative comments to someone obviously going through a tough breakup. No need to kick her when she’s already down. Teddi added:
“Yeah, and I know I am gonna keep working on feeling my best so that I can show up for the best for my kids and my life and my work. I mean, I think that’s the biggest thing for me right now.”
