Terrifying.
An 18-year-old woman named Ana Rosa Mora was on track to graduate from Kelvyn Park High School in Chicago, Illinois, and planned on attending college in the fall.
But those plans have fallen apart because of a horrific incident that happened just a few weeks ago.
On that day, Ana Rosa Mora delivered a healthy baby boy early on that Saturday at her home, but immediately placed the newborn in a plastic Walmart bag and left him outside. She then went back to sleep, and by the time police were called in about a child on the street and arrived, the baby had died.
Now this would-be teenage mother faces a criminal charge of first-degree murder, and is being held on $500,000 bail.
The 18-year-old tried to lie to school officials, who knew she was pregnant, about the outcome of her baby. She showed them a photo of a baby girl that she had downloaded from the internet, and claimed that was her child.
Her lie first began to unravel, though, when she told those same school officials about a dead baby that was found near her house, and if DNA tests would be able to prove who the mother was.
She then told one person, who had asked how old the child was, that the baby was six-months-old right in front of the school officials who absolutely knew that was a lie. It was at that moment when one school staff member called the police to report their suspicions.
The police interviewed the teenage mother on Tuesday, and had her in handcuffs by Friday.
Mora apparently revealed that she had in fact left the baby for dead, and did so because the child looked so much like her ex boyfriend – who in fact was the father of the child. She was afraid that her current boyfriend at the time would leave her after finding this information out.
Such a tremendously sad story about the end of two lives — Ana Rosa Mora’s future, and her child’s life altogether.
So messed up.
